CrumbCost

Privacy

CrumbCost is a local web app, not a cloud service. This page explains what that means in practice, including the limits.

Your recipe and customer data stays in your browser

Ingredients, prices, recipes, settings, and saved quotes (including any customer display names you type) are stored in your browser's local storage on this device. CrumbCost has no accounts, no database, and no server-side code, so this data is not sent anywhere by the app.

The demo workspace uses temporary tab storage and is kept separate from your saved data.

What the website host can still see

CrumbCost is served as static files by a web host. Like any website, the host receives ordinary request information when you load a page — typically your IP address, the page address, the time, and your browser's user-agent — and may keep it in access logs under its own policy. Those requests never contain your recipes or customers, because that data never leaves your browser.

No analytics or advertising in the app

The app contains no analytics, tracking pixels, advertising SDKs, or third-party scripts, and loads no remote fonts. Its content security policy blocks the app from making network requests. A specific deployment's host might offer its own traffic analytics; check with whoever runs the site you are using.

Shared devices

Local storage is not encrypted. Anyone who can use the same browser profile on this device can open CrumbCost and see your data. Use your own device or browser profile, and delete your data when using a shared computer.

Exports are under your control

Backups (JSON), spreadsheet exports (CSV), and printed or PDF quotes are created only when you choose to, and are saved where you choose. Once a file leaves the app, protecting it is up to you. The backup and the internal costing CSV include your costs; quotes do not.

No cloud backup

There is no copy of your data anywhere else. Clearing browser data, using a private window, or browser storage limits can erase it. Download a backup regularly.

Deleting your data

In the app, open Data → Delete all local CrumbCost data. This removes only CrumbCost's own storage keys; other websites' data is not touched. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings also removes it.

Optional AI tool (copy and paste)

CrumbCost makes no AI requests. If you use “Use your own AI tool”, you copy a prompt containing your recipe text and paste it into a service of your choice. That shares the recipe text with that service, under its terms and privacy policy. Customer names are never included in the prompt. The JSON you paste back is checked and reviewed in your browser.

What we don't claim

We don't claim that using CrumbCost makes you anonymous, that your data is encrypted, or that the app makes you compliant with any particular law or regulation. If you need those guarantees, get advice for your situation.
